Pati of the Woods – a sorry sight!
Miraculously spotted in the woods near Racot, extremely exhausted and resigned, with just a spark of live in her weak and skinny body.
She looked terrible!!! Her body, her eyes and her posture seemed to scream: SUFFERING AND PAIN!!!
At first glance she’s extremely starved, her coat lifeless and her breasts saggy, indicating that she was pregnant many times, with lost hair and chafes all over her body and extremely long claws, making it impossible for her to walk normally, she has problems with her eyes and, on top of that, her left ear is missing… We are afraid to think of how ravaged her organism is…
Despite the traumatic experience, she’s very kind and calm, as if she felt sorry to be such a nuisance to us… She’s got a willpower to live, but sometimes she has that look in her eyes begging not to harm her any more, to let her rest with no beating but a little affection instead – to help her…
We are ready to do anything that can be done to help her, but we are afraid we might not afford it.
So many times you have opened your hearts to the misery of our charges, supporting us financially in our struggle to save each dog’s life. Please, give us a hand this time too – without your generous support this battle will be lost.

Pollina – a beautiful stray!!!
Today, a young German Shepherd type girl turned up at a company visited by our volunteer Kasia.
We temporarily called her Pollina. She’s absolutely gorgeous and charming. We’ve already learned that she loves children…
She’s under 1 year and already has experienced bad fate! There are announcements on the local radio in Gniezno and posters all over the town. Yet, as there was no alternative, the sweet girl landed in the local dog’s shelter in Gniezno and Kasia’s heart is broken…
Please, help us find a home, even a foster home will be better than nothing!
HELP!!!

Beki of Bavaria has been REHOMED!!! And Barry is a VIP!!!
Beki has been officially adopted today! She will live with a young couple who were interested in her for some time.
The new owners were not scared off by the two surgeries she had had for cancer (her uterus and oviducts have been removed). Beki has recovered after the surgeries and now we must keep our fingers crossed for her. Hopefully there will be no metastases and she’ll live long!!! She must have another surgery on her eye, but her new Owners will take care of this. We wish you a long and happy life, Beki…

Barry, on the other hand, is under special care of the shelter manager, who takes him personally for a walk. Barry barks impatiently as soon as he hears him. He’s crazy about sausages and is generally doing well. Hopefully, he’ll too find a new home once his eyes are “repaired”. The surgery was postponed because there’s a new vet and they didn’t want to take a risk, so they’ll choose another specialist…

Power with ADHD has a real home!!!
With Karina he’s blown off some of his steam and calmed down a little. He has been neutered and had some training… It’s really surprising to see him walk on a leash – it’s not the same old Power any more!!!
He’s still a way to go, but he’s very quick to learn… He’s open to a man and intelligent. He’s got a potential…
We didn’t think he’s find a new home so fast. Well, he did.
He was taken in by Monika, who was not scared off even when we told her that she had to see “Marley & Me” (now on the screen) as part of her pre-adoption training.
Monika will have to work hard but we believe she’s going to make it. Power was delighted with the liberty of a large garden (securely fenced) and the attention of so many friendly people, the toys, good food and freedom in the first place…
Power, you’ve got you chance! Please, don’t waste it! Be a good boy and get adjusted to your new life!!! Good luck!!!

Owing to Agnieszka, Piotrus regained confidence in Man. Today he’s fallen asleep forever...
We can’t find words good enough to express our reverence for Agnieszka…
She took in a wreck of a dog, hoping for a metamorphosis. In her care, Piotrus became beautiful but he was very difficult to handle. She and other members of her family were bitten by him. Unfortunately, she suffered the consequences of his previous life experience…
On top of that, the findings of the thorough medical check sounded like a final verdict… Piotrus had spleen cancer and metastases were to be expected. But Agnieszka didn’t give up. She was so determined in her struggle for Piotrus to regain confidence in man, to make the evening of his life as beautiful and happy as possible. She’s achieved her goal. She gave Piotrus happiness and rest. She let him live the rest of his life in comfort and when suffering came, she stayed with him until his last heartbeat and walked him to the Rainbow Bridge, holding the no longer stray dog in her arms…
We owe you our gratitude, Agnieszka!
Thanks to you Piotrus is now playing happily at the Rainbow Bridge meadow, waiting for you and for us to join him.
And you already have a Guardian Angel who will take care about your salvation…

Puma - an almost Flat Coated Retreiver girl
She had spent some time at the shelter before we spotted her…
Today, she arrived at our temp home. She’s frightfully thin. Fortunately, the blood tests (including the pancreas) show that the reason why she’s so emaciated is because she had been starving. Our girl received a bag of Royal Canin Sensitivity Control and visited the vet, who ordered an antibiotic and energizing injections.
After we stop the diarrhoea she’s now suffering from, remove the horrible tartar (she’s less than 2 years, so the tartar shows how extremely unhealthy her diet had been) and spay her, Puma will be ready for rehoming…
She’s agreeable, trusting, ingratiating, charming… You can’t find enough words to tell how wonderful she is…

Pipi and Puska from the “slaughter shelter” in Krzyczki are already in our care.
They’ve been staying at Mrs Wanda’s foster home for almost six months…
They’ve both gained more confidence but Pipi is still too shy to come close to your hand…
Pusia is ready for rehoming… She loves females, but holds herself aloof from males, although with time she becomes more trustful… She loves to cuddle up to you or to run and play with toys or just twigs… An ideal dog…
Pipi, however, is a special case. We don’t know what she had experienced but she is scared of practically everything… It is our point of honour to socialize her. To start with she bit her carer, who was giving her a piece of sausage…
We continue to work with her everyday. We hope that step by step, with lots of kindness and goodies, she’ll develop trust and we’ll get her on a path to a better future. We still have a way to go though…

An unwanted puppy, miraculously rescued…
We got a call from a lady who had found a puppy near the Poznan Citadel… The little boy miraculously escaped death under the car wheels…
He got to one of our temp homes, then was moved to another… We spread the word around Poznan and within a few days Pupster was rehomed.
We wish you lots of love and sense of security, dear boy! You’ve been lucky!

No horses for steaks!!!
Dogs are varied, charming, wise and most devoted friends of man. Cats are beautiful and have their own ways. But most charming and graceful among domestic animals are horses…
Is there anything more beautiful than a galloping horse? Is there anything more silky to touch than a horse’s nostrils? Which animal can compete with horse’s strength and perseverance that has been serving the human race so well? That’s a horse!
Over the ages, horses have been both admired and used for the most difficult tasks. Horses were used to conquer new lands, went to battles, served in coal mines, ploughed fields, served in the police and – as the civilization and motorization progress – one could expect that in consideration of the long service, in the 21st century the horse would be worshipped and put on a pedestal. Nothing of the kind…
The world of horses, similar to that of dogs, revolves around uncontrolled reproduction and greed. Don’t be fooled by the reports from Janow Podlaski, where horse champions are auctioned by the “citizens of the world” for millions of dollars. Unfortunately, most horses work hard for their living… The now trendy horse-riding and hippotherapy centres exploit these beautiful creatures to a maximum, but when a horse got sick and the cost of its therapy is higher than the expected profits, the poor animal usually lands on a rich man’s table as an exquisite dish…
Such would be the fate of 2 geldings and 2 mares from one of the riding schools near Poznan…
As a result of our intervention and the information we gave to the owners, the 2 geldings are already safe.
One was successfully rehomed and the other (with roarer and an injury of his front legs) was put in the care of Pro Equo Foundation.
2 mares are waiting for new homes… They both suffer from sesamoid bone and can no longer work, but – as Kajetan put it – they can be your someone to love and … to mow your meadow…
We are desperately looking for a new home for them! We don’t want them to be used for salami!

Pardon – the work of Frankenstein???
Nearly a month ago we described the horrible story of Pardon…
He was severely bitten by his pen-mate, who tore his neck apart… The consequences were even worse than the suffering he had once experienced…
As a result of the skin having been torn off the neck muscles, an inflammatory state developed with effusion which decapsulated the skin from its bed. A thick wall of inflammatory-changed tissues developed.
Despite two surgeries under anaesthesia to clear and drain the wounds, there was no improvement.
Finally, the inflammatory-changed fold of skin was excised. Kajetan says that when he saw Pardon after the surgery, he broke down. This young and always cheerful dog, who until then had been enduring the clinic and the surgeries with so much optimism, had now a look that you can see in the eyes of the dogs who have experienced horror. It was only the next day that he regained his usual vigour.
He was behaving perfectly at the clinic. He was going for a walk, first on the leash, and then unleashed, after which he obediently returned to the pen-house.
After a few days, he had a minor corrective surgery because of the recess that developed at the right end, which had to be excised.
He had four surgeries in total and numerous changes of dressing and iv infusions. An additional “disaster” is the plastic neck to prevent him from licking the wound and biting through the band immobilizing his legs. Without it, he would scratch his wound.
He looks terrible. With his whole neck shaved and the wound around it, the plastic neck, immobilized legs – yet, he’s joyful and trustful. The wound is healing well and in 10 days the stitches can be removed. There is only some minor ooze from the right end.
Natalia is spoiling him – she gives him three meals a day, takes him frequently for a walk and must drive him away from her bed.

Again, we are kindly requesting your financial support to our lean bank account. The demand is definitely higher than the supply… We just can’t make the ends meet but how can we say NO and watch the dog suffering?
